The league MALLORY Qualifier. March 28, 2015. Port Jefferson, NY

The Mallory Trophy is school sailing's oldest trophy. It was selected and presented to the then-IYRA (now ISSA) by Clifford Mallory and his son, when the elder Mallory was Commodore of Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, Connecticut, and President of NAYRU, the predecessor of US SAILING. The early competitions were in Atlantic-class sloops, hence the sterling silver model of the original Atlantic on the trophy. In recent years the competition for the ISSA Nationals has been in double handed dinghies in a two-division format. This was initiated when the U.S. Naval Academy took over hosting the event, after many years at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in keel sloops and Ravens. Prior to that stewardship, the series had been hosted by clubs, and once by a school for their first venture into dinghies, Fireflies at St. George's in 1959. The Mallory competition now is rotated among the ISSA districts.

Below is the registration, waiver, and med forms file for this season.

We are going to start the sailing season indoors, see the suggestions below:

• Working out; inside and outside to get in shape for cold water sailing
• Checking gear
• Doing class session on techniques, tactics, strategies, and Sailing rules.
• "Virtually Sailing" in our computer lab using sail simulators which is new and a lot of fun.

The 3V sailing team is going to attend these session at The SBS school next week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, our normal schedule.

Report to Memorial room 4 at 3:45 in workout clothes for both inside and outside workouts.

We do need the forms filled out and the fee in before a sailor starts so they are covered under The SBS insurance.

I will be collecting the signed waivers & the last checks tonight at theory class, or you can drop them off in my mailbox till Sunday night.

Finally, there is a Rules seminar by Dan Perry at Oakcliffe Sailing Center in Oyster Bay this Sunday from 2 - 5 pm. Is anyone interested? It is $30 per person.

Annapolis Regatta - 2014 Season Closer

Congrats to the 3V Sailing Team on a nice 3rd Fall Season ending. The regatta experienced variable winds and our co-coach Will Becchina kept spirits up and pushed the team to a very respectable performance. Bravo. My 2014 soccer season ended so I could not attend this regatta - but my thoughts were with my friends all the time.

Here is the agenda for 2015:

- bi-weekly get together : regatta rules to discuss strategies, etc..
- sailing movie night
- sweaters , pinnies, and t-shirts reorders
- work on new flyer for the spring season 2015

Important news: My bro and me saved up some money and with the help of our family purchased a  used 25' sport boat called the Elliott 770. Philippe and me are pumped to go sailing this coming Spring and take some of our 3V sailing team friends out to surf with the big A-sail off the carbon retractable bowsprit. More about it later...

State Championships in Rochester NY

rigging the new 420 just before the start

The 2nd NYS Championship Regatta the 3V Sailing team has participated in has been another awesome weekend of sailing. After a satisfying team dinner in one of NY's best BBQ places, we went on to take 5th place overall. The weather conditions were consistently breezy (10-12 knots) and chilly; dry suits were definitely the right choice of gear.

Looking forward to doing even better next year!

Victor Tarjan and Riley Becchina - a great team

NYISA - SE Spring League Fleet Invitational

Today the Three Village Sailing Team participated in its 3rd regatta of the season. All but one of our sailors were present and we were all eager to get out on the water. The conditions were truly terrible. With heavy rainfall all night long we experienced fog until noon and very light winds. Luckily the wind filled in from the South and the race committee could hold all of its 4 races. Another great day on the water with many valuable lessons leaned for our team !

First Fleet Regatta of the Sason

Today the Three Village Sailing Team completed its first Team regatta of the season. 8 teams were present and there was a strong turnout of sailors from Long Island and CT. The team from Rye was again the favorite. All 8 of our sailors participated. The winds were forecast to blow from the North at 15-20knots and later building to up to 30 knots in the Sound. We sailed 6 races and all of our skippers and crew managed the challenging conditions very well.

Sailing just before the last snow

Today we had light winds so we stayed close to the South end of Port Jefferson harbor. The team practiced starts and team racing. The grey skies overhead signified impeding snow and 1-3 inches of snow accumulation are predicted. The team was glad that we could get the practice completed.

Strategy Meeting

Today we held our first yearly sailing strategy meeting. Racing as a team is completely different from racing as fleet. We reviewed strategic moves and fine tuned starting techniques. These pre-regatta meetings greatly help us get the best of our team and boats. We are ready for the first Team Regatta to be held this coning Saturday in Port Jefferson harbor.

First Sail of the 2014 Season

Yesterday all 8 of the Three Village Sailing members showed up for the first day on the water in 2014 to train alongside our friends of the Stony Brook School. Although there was still snow on the ground everywhere we took the 420's out into Port Jefferson harbor. Great day !

Spring Sailing Season is around the corner

While we are being pounded by heavy snow it seems more like Syberia than New York. Thoughts about the  upcoming sailing season makes us feel instantly warmer. Spring is around the corner and we remind all our fellow sailors to make sure that all their cold sailing gear is checked and in order. You will need a drysuit to sail the 420 in Spring. In case you do not have one, now is the time to order. If you need help, please contact us. We have sources for the best deals.

Here is the provisionary schedule (subject to change so please check back regulary):

March 22. 2014: Fleet Qualifier for the Mallory

March 29. 2014: Baker Qualifier

April 12. 2014: District Qualifier

Stony Brook School Barbeque

After a great season of sailing, we celebrated and had a barbecue with the Stony Brook team. Only smiling faces however, as we look onwards to a (hopefully) great spring season.

Last Regatta of the Fall Season

Dinko, Steve, Alex, Riley, Philippe, Luke, Trevor

The Fall season has ended on a positive note after a great day of sailing. Despite the gusty winds, even our lightest teammates were able to have an awesome time. For the first time in Three Village Sailing history, a first place finish was captured not only once, but twice! The entire team has learned a lot this Fall, and we are all looking forward to what the Spring season may hold in store!

Fall Double-handed Fleet Racing League Invitational Regatta

Light winds and a strong outgoing current challenged 15teams who were racing last Saturday. Sailing teams from Bayshore, Bellport to Mattitick and Harborfields competed. Our 6 Three Village sailors had an excellent day and the 420 steered by Danyti with crew Dinko fought to an excellent 5th spot and Steven and Alex achieved a 3rd in one of the races. In the A division we placed 6th, in B division 12th and overall 9th. Not bad at all !

Team Race at SUNY Maritime

The Three Village Sailing Team sporting the new pinnies

Last Saturday (Sept 28th) our the Three Village sailors participated in their first Team regatta. 8 teams from Long Island were present and what started out as worrying conditions (too little wind) actually turned into a spectacular day. The race committee got 15 races in and sailing in front of New York City's skyline was amazing.

First Regatta of the Fall Sailing Season

Skipper Danyte and crew Riley sporting our new pinnies

Last Saturday we enjoyed our first Fall regatta in Port Jefferson Harbor. 8 Long Island teams were present and wind conditions medium, picking up to strong gusts from the SW in the afternoon. Plenty of surfing and capsizing from all participants. We realized that our team had consistent bad starts. To this effect I have decided to hold another pasta party and starting seminar this coming Friday at 6pm at my our house. Next Saturday we will be heading to SUNY Maritime for another regatta.

Saiing Rules Overview Meeting

Today we conducted our first Sailing Rules Overview meeting. I made up some hand-out sheets where the most common rules were illustrated. Going over the basic rules of sailing was especially helpful for our Junior Varsity members and served as a refresher for the more experience sailors. As an extra bonus we watched the recording of one of the exciting races of the America's Cup.

Capt. Philippe Tarjan of the 3 V Sailing Team debriefing on beach just before try-outs

Today we had a brisk sailing breeze and many new faces showed up. It made me realize how thankful I am to the new sailors who have decided to participate in the 3 Village Sailing Team try-outs. Compared to our first season (2012) we have tripled our sailing members ! We also ordered cool new team pinnies that we shall receive in a week. Nex

New York State Regatta

Trevor, Philippe (myself) and Rachel relaxing after the last heat

This past Saturday (May 18th 2013)was a great day of sailing. Thanks to Captain Linzee's skillful negotiations, we were able to form a composite team with Pierson and East Hampton high school. The morning sailing proved to be quite a challenge, as the weather was fickle and the wind was all over the place. At one point, Trevor and myself experienced a 180 degree wind shift in a matter of 20 seconds!

After a long day of sailing, the ThreeVillage/Pierson/E.Hampton composite team placed a respectable 9th overall out of 16 teams. Can't wait for next season!

Port Jefferson Maritime Festival

What perfect weather ! Sunshine and a warm Spring breeze brought thousands of spectators to the annual Port Jefferson Maritime Festival. Of course we took this as a great opportunity to advertise and promote our Three Village Sailing Team. Myself, my brother Victor, Trevor Munch (who took the great photos) and several other members of our growing sailing club were present to answer questions, show people our cool 420 sailboats and provide on the water sailing demos.

As proactive as it was it made us realize that alhttp://www.aeroyacht.com/contact-us/ot of work needs to be done to get the right information to the right people. Hey, its a start !

Oyster bay regatta : WFC

Today was one of these days where wind and current were opposed. Conditions in Oyster Bay were very difficult and me and my partner Trevor had a hard time coordinating windshifts. Gusty winds, sunny weather and great quality 420's made it all worth it. Thank god we had dry-suits as our hands were getting soaked...

The 3Vilage Sailing Team consisted of:

VictorTarjan (skipper, myself ;-)
Rachel Rothstein (crew)

Trevor Munch (skipper)
Silvia Cohn (crew)
